SCHOOL OPERATIONAL POLICIES FOR STAFF

INTRODUCTION

The discipline of getting things done having the right person in the right place at the right time and doing the right thing is crucial to every organizational development. In St. Augustine’s college performance is a critical activity for the physical, intellectual, spiritual, social and emotional growth and development of the school. Hence it is the task, duty and responsibility of all St. Augustine’s College Staff to operate within the framework of our institutional policy and ensure that they are administered effectively, safely, fairly and consistently.

RESUMPTION, ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY:

a. The school authority decides when each term begins and ends. Academic and non – academic staff are expected to study, plan for and follow the drawn up school calendar for key activities like resumption, reception, meetings, submission of exam/CA questions, duties and other school programs.

b. Regular school period begins at 7:15am and all teaching and non-staff are required to resume work on campus not later than 7:00am to commence their daily tasks.
c. The school shall observe weekly assembly on Mondays and Fridays by 7:15 am and every staff is expected to be present on the assembly ground.
d. Regular teaching and learning activities begins at 7:50am and all subject teachers must be in the classroom doing the right thing at the stipulated time.
e. All staff of St Augustine’s college are officially required to report to work in the school compound by 7:15am and close at 3:30pm.
f. All staff should ensure they clock-in by signing the attendance register or machine as evidence of their time of arrival and a confirmation of their presence at work on each working day.

CODE OF ETHICS

a. Communication from the management to the staff would be done through the secretaries and/or memos or notice boards.
b. All meetings must be approved by the school management and all unauthorized meetings will be treated as professional misconduct.
c. Staff members are not allowed to use the school’s official telephone numbers for personal use.
d. The use of mobile phones is not allowed around the class room area during school hours except clerical staff that are to use phones strictly for official duties. Mobile phones in staff room and offices should be put on silent mode. Phone calls should be made or received in secluded places.
e. All external communications either to parents or other contacts on behalf of the students or the school are not allowed for any reason. In the event of a critical/urgent situation all calls must seek clearance from the office of college principal through the Vice principal Admin.
f. No staff can enter in to contractual agreement with any parent or stakeholder without the consent of the Principal.
g. Every teaching, non-teaching and clerical staff shall discharge his or her duties most professionally and must hold a valid certificate appropriate for his/her assignment and be a graduate of an approved college or university.
h. All staff especially the teachers must be caring and be committed to the goals and objective that EVERY STUDENT SUCCEEDS without any left behind both in students’ academic success and students positive engagement/involvement while on compound. Employees must believe in the student centered philosophy of the school and be ready to work with and help all students regardless of their social status or orientation.
i. The staff should not have been convicted of a criminal offence either in Nigeria or abroad.
j. The staff must not have been dismissed or retired compulsorily due to professional misconduct or crime.
k. The staff must not exit the former place of assignment without due settlement with his/her former employers
l. No staff may engage in any form of business or other remunerative activities including private lessons on the compound except if specially assigned to do so by the Principal.
m. The staff must possess and demonstrate organizational skills, respect and obedience to issued instructions, the readiness and willingness to deliver and on time, the ability to communicate and work within a team, the disposition to cooperate effectively with other staff members, and be supportive in staff and student affairs/activities.
n. Every staff must be ready and willing to serve in committees and accept extra responsibilities as service in honesty to the school community to sustain the life and existence of the system.
o. The staff shall be professional in appearance, in manner and in attitude.
p. Every Staff ought to actively seek self – improvement constantly through personal professional development programs such as workshops, seminars and training as well as taking up membership of professional association without undermining or compromising his/her responsibilities towards the school.
q. The staff will accept co-curricular activities as an integral part of the school program while approaching his/her role and activities with enthusiasm.
r. The staff will work effectively with parents’ in achieving the objectives of the school. The staff will work in securing the cooperation of parents in supporting and respecting the school policies and practices.
s. Every staff is required to discharge the usual duties of the post to which he/she is appointed and any other duties assigned by the Proprietor/Principal or the Senior Management Team of the school. Willful disobedience to lawful instructions or refusal to perform special duties assigned to him/her shall be regarded as misconduct.
